Pagodas can be found throughout all of Asia. In places such as China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and so on. All Pagodas today have originated from a design called a Stupa. These small dome-like buildings would have a single protruding point on the roof; that would point towards the sky.

 

They were primarily used as places for Meditation and historically contained Items that would enhance the user's focus. Such as the remains of monks and nuns, auspicious objects, and other "reminders" can be found in them.

 

Overtime as Buddhism spread throughout Asia, the Stupa transmogrified into a much taller building. This Increase in height would cause lighting to strike the very top of these buildings. As time went on, these buildings would become greatly associated, as places that would directly commune with the spirit.
